Elf on the Shelf has become a feature in many family homes at Christmas. It is a great way to have some fun and get the kids excited in the build up to the big day (whilst also having the added bonus of encouraging good behaviour)
So, What is Elf on the Shelf?
Elf on the Shelf is a festive tradition that sees a toy Elf toy placed in different locations around the house at night, acting out various mischievous scenarios. It is generally done in the countdown to Christmas, with parents trying to come up with new Elf exploits daily, almost like an alternative advent starting on December 1st with the arrival of the Elf (or Elves).
The idea is that this Elf is checking in on the children before Christmas and reporting back to Santa, letting him know if they are behaving (whilst misbehaving themselves). The adults usually set up the next Elf surprise when the kids are in bed, ready for them to wake up and find in the morning.
